  • Economics gives an overview of how a market-oriented economic system operates and examines the role of individuals as consumers, producers, and citizens. Basic concepts are illustrated by a variety of contemporary problems and public policy issues, including the role of local, state, and federal governments in the economy. Concepts include scarcity, resources, economic decision-making, supply and demand, alternative economic systems, economic growth, monetary and fiscal policy, inflation, unemployment, and global economic issues. Reading, writing, group discussion, and group activities will be emphasized in this course. Consumer applications will be integrated into each unit and students will participate in economic simulations. Students will be required to complete a semester project along with several critical reviews based on current events and the economy.
